Maldon is the first Australian town to produce its own money that is valid in any of the participating businesses in one town, Maldon.

Here's how Maldon Money works:
  • Maldon & District Community Bank®  holds the stock of Maldon Money notes, each with a value of $10
• the notes can be purchased in multiples of $10 for someone who wants to give a gift voucher
• the notes will be on special paper stock and will be stamped to guarantee their authenticity
• the notes are guaranteed by the Maldon & District Community Bank®
• Maldon Money can only be used for a purchase at a participating Maldon Inc business
• the participating Maldon Inc businesses will have a poster displayed in the businesses’ window and at the point of sale showing that they accept the notes
• the notes can then be used by the recipient of the gift to make a purchase at any of the participating Maldon Inc businesses
• the notes cannot be converted to cash but can only be used for a purchase
• the Maldon Money notes can be treated in the same way as a normal bank note and they can be used as part or all of a purchase.
