Kangaroo Hotel
The Kangaroo is an authentic country pub that was built in June 1856, so we have a lot of history and character. We serve pub favorites such as steaks and parma’s but we also include on the menu 4-6 daily specials focused on local and seasonal ingredients.While we don’t like to use the term I suppose if you have to label us you would call us a “gastro country pub”.
Our meats are sourced locally from the acclaimed Inglewood meats, all produce sourced is free range. Our eggs are from our staff’s own chooks, our olives and olive oils are local as well as many other ingredients. Our seafood is from She Shells Seafood Australia most awarded fishmonger and we ensure all seafood is fresh and never frozen and of course is from sustainable species. Overall we care about what we serve and we hope it makes a difference to your experience.
Central Victoria is also famous for its wines particularly Shiraz and Tempranillo and we stock some of the best local examples. Another not so known fact is that Harcourt (just down the road) is Victoria’s premier apple and pear region and some of Australia’s best ciders come from Harcourt and of course we stock them as well.
Beers are a little harder as we don’t have too many local brewers although we do have a great American Pale Ale from Harcourt but to ensure a greater variety we source craft beers from around Victoria.
Another aspect of the pub, we have been working on, is our “backyard” some people call it a beer garden but we like to think its a little more then just a beer garden. The backyard is a wonderful place to have a drink and/or eat as we have developed a great lawn area with veggie garden, chooks and guineas pigs and if you have the kids there is even a cubby. We have designed the backyard so parents can actually relax while the kids run around, we even decided against swings as that would mean you would have to get up and push your young kids and that would just be too much of a hassle.
So all in all we have tried to create a great country pub experience and we look forward to seeing you.
