Maldon in Winter - Celebrating 60 Years!

The Maldon in Winter Festival has been warming the hearts of locals and visitors for many years, celebrating community, creativity and the unique charm of Australia's First Notable Town.

In 2026, Maldon celebrates a remarkable milestone – 60 years since being officially recognised as Australia's First Notable Town, a designation that has helped preserve the town's rich heritage, historic streetscape and unique character for future generations.

One of the festival's most cherished traditions is Bonfire Night, a much-loved community event that brings together families, friends and visitors around a roaring bonfire to celebrate the magic of winter. Adding to the experience is the opportunity to arrive in Maldon aboard the historic Victorian Goldfields Railway Steam Train, travelling through the Goldfields countryside much as passengers did during Victoria's gold rush era more than 140 years ago.

The Maldon in Winter Festival continues to grow each year, with 2026 marking the second Festival of Lights. Following the success of last year's inaugural event, this year's celebration will be expanded with more family entertainment, community activities, live music, illuminated streets and interactive experiences throughout the town.

A major highlight will once again be the spectacular light projection on the historic Maldon Hotel, bringing colour, creativity and storytelling to one of Maldon's most iconic heritage buildings. Combined with glowing installations, family activities, live performances and the warm hospitality of local businesses, the Festival of Lights promises to transform Maldon's historic streets into a magical winter wonderland.
