Festival of Lights

Friday 10th July 3:00-9:00pm | Maldon, VIC

Join us for a magical evening as Maldon comes alive with light, colour, music, family fun, and community spirit during the Festival of Lights.

Start your adventure with a scenic afternoon journey aboard the Victorian Goldfields Railway steam train from Castlemaine to Maldon. Step back in time as you travel through the beautiful Goldfields countryside before arriving in the heart of one of Australia's most historic towns.

From 3:00pm, the festivities begin at Bank Corner with a range of free family activities including face painting, a Bubble Fairy, balloon animals, glow sticks, children's art activities, and live music with Hartwood - father and son.

A special highlight of the day will be the interactive community art project outside the Maldon Art Gallery. Children, parents, and grandparents are invited to colour in a template of the iconic Maldon Hotel. Selected designs will then be transformed and projected onto the actual hotel building later that evening in vivid colours, creating a unique and memorable community artwork for all to enjoy.

Take time to wander Maldon's historic streets and explore the many unique shops, galleries, cafés, wine bars, and pubs. Discover locally made products, handcrafted gifts, artisan creations, gourmet treats, artwork, homewares, crystals, jewellery, and one-of-a-kind treasures lovingly created by talented local makers and small businesses.

Historic images celebrating Maldon's rich heritage will be projected onto the Bank Corner Building from 5 July to 11 July, offering visitors a fascinating glimpse into the town's past.

As darkness falls, the Festival of Lights continues with spectacular Light projections from 6:00pm to 9:00pm on both Friday 10 July and Saturday 11 July. The Maldon Hotel will become a giant canvas featuring interactive artwork, abstract designs, and colourful visual displays, while the Bank Corner Building showcases historic photographs and stories from Maldon's past.

All Main Street businesses will be encouraged to remain open, creating a vibrant evening atmosphere where visitors can shop, dine, enjoy local wines, warm up with coffee and desserts, and experience the hospitality that makes Maldon so special.

Bring the family, gather your friends, and celebrate winter with an unforgettable evening of creativity, community, history, shopping, food, and light in the heart of Maldon.
